Classification of springs

According to the nature of the force, springs are divided into: extension springs, compression springs, torsion springs and bending springs.

Extension springs (referred to as extension springs) are coil springs that bear axial tension, and extension springs are generally made of circular section materials. When not under load, the coils of the tension spring are generally tight and there is no gap between the coils.

Compression springs (referred to as compression springs) are helical springs that are subjected to axial pressure. The cross-section of the material used is mostly circular, and they are also rolled with rectangular and multi-strand steel yam. The springs are generally of equal pitch, and the coils of the compression spring are There is a certain gap between the rings. When subjected to an external load, the spring contracts and deforms to store the deformation energy.

Torsion springs are coil springs. Torsion springs can store and release angular energy or statically fix a device by rotating a lever around the central axis of the spring body. The ends of torsion springs are fixed to other components, and as other components rotate about the center of the spring, the spring pulls them back to their original position, creating a torque or rotational force.

There are also two less common air springs and carbon nanotube springs;

The air spring is a kind of non-metallic spring that adds pressurized air into a flexible airtight container and uses the compressibility of the air to achieve an elastic effect. It can greatly improve the ride comfort of the vehicle when used in the suspension device of high-end vehicles, thereby greatly improving the vehicle's Running comfort, so air springs have been widely used in automobiles and railway locomotives.

Carbon nanotube spring: It is necessary to make a carbon nanotube film first, and then use the spinning technology to spin the carbon nanotube film into a carbon nanotube spring. The diameter can reach hundreds of microns and the length can reach several centimeters. Used in medical devices, such as tension sensing bandages, etc.
